Visiting International Research Student (VIRS) program
The Visiting International Research Students (VIRS) program provides admission to UBC for international students to conduct research full-time at UBC. While at UBC, the student is under the supervision of a UBC faculty member. They may not take courses while they are a VIRS student. Since 2014, UBC has welcomed over 2500 VIRS students from over 650 universities and 85 different countries.
It is the responsibility of an individual applicant to identify, contact, and obtain approval from a UBC faculty member who will be their VIRS supervisor. To assist in this process, students can review this database of UBC professors and their research interests who are open to supervising VIRS students.
Please refer to the VIRS webpage for all information on eligibility, fees, application process, and answers to frequently asked questions. If you have any questions or would like further information, please contact the VIRS advisor at go.global@ubc.ca.
Study in Canada Scholarships
Students (both undergraduate and graduate) coming to UBC through the VIRS program are eligible for Study in Canada Scholarships, funded by the Government of Canada.
Vancouver Summer Program
The UBC Vancouver Summer Program (VSP) is an opportunity for international undergraduate students to study at the University of British Columbia during the summer, in one of two four-week sessions. By offering globally relevant courses and sociocultural activities specific to Vancouver and its surroundings, the VSP encourages students to engage in cross-disciplinary learning and nurture their understanding of Canadian culture and values. If you have any questions or would like further information, please contact the Vancouver Summer Program team directly at vsp.ubc@ubc.ca.
