Physics Seminar by Prof. Dr. Jameel-Un Nabi, Rector of the University of Wah

Middle East Technical University will host Prof. Dr. Jameel-Un Nabi, Rector of the University of Wah, Pakistan, for a seminar entitled “Hybrid Quantum-Classical CNN for Astrophysical Object Classification.”

The seminar will take place on 24 September 2026 at 14:40 in Cavid Erginsoy Hall.

Prof. Dr. Jameel-Un Nabi is a distinguished nuclear physicist and academic leader with extensive research experience in nuclear astrophysics, weak interaction processes, computational physics, and emerging applications of artificial intelligence and quantum computing. He received his PhD in Physics from Heidelberg University and has held research positions at the Max Planck Institute for Nuclear Physics and Louisiana State University. He has published more than 200 international research papers and has supervised numerous graduate students.

In his seminar, Prof. Dr. Nabi will present a hybrid quantum-classical convolutional neural network approach for the classification of astrophysical objects. The study combines quantum feature extraction with a CNN-based model, referred to as AstroNet, and explores the potential of quantum machine learning for processing complex astronomical datasets.
