DI is an officially recognized academic institution founded in the State of Qatar as an independent institution of higher education licensed by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.  The Doha Institute offers 18 master programs in social sciences and humanities and public administration and development economics, in addition to 8 PhD programs in Public Administration, Development Economics, Politics and International Relations, Critical Security Studies, Media Studies, Sociology, History, Linguistics and Arabic Lexicography which all have official accreditations from the relevant accreditation authorities. Some programs have received additional international academic recognition from institutions such as the Foundation for International Business Administration Accreditation (FIBAA), and the Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs, and Administration (NASPAA). 

DI offers competitive scholarships for accepted students with a minimum GPA of 3.0 in their undergraduate degree. The two-year master's degree program, which begins in August each year, is divided into four terms, and DI also offers scholarships to doctoral candidates who have master's degree with distinction.
