Dear Faculty Members,
The applications of the Erasmus+ Teaching Staff Mobility program for non-European countries will be taken between 15 September-30 October 2026.
Mobility activities within the framework of this specific call must be completed until 31 July 2027.
Erasmus+ KA171 Staff Mobility for Teaching Assignments (STA) funds mobility activity that allows academic staff of a Higher Education Institution (HEI) to teach and carry out joint academic/educational activities at a partner HEI in the program countries with which METU has Erasmus+ KA171 agreement in different parts of the world. Erasmus+ KA171 Staff Mobility for Teaching Assignments can include a variety of activities such as but not limited to lecturing, hands-on teaching activities, giving seminars, organizing workshops, etc.
1. Partner List and Quotas
Please find the list of countries and partner universities (will be published very soon) which can be visited under this call as well as the quotas per region.
Applicants may also see the same list for the quotas allocated to related countries and regions.
The program budget can only be used for mobiltiy to a partner university listed in this spesific call, it is not possible to visit a country/institution which is not indicated in this list.
For teaching activity, there must be an inter-institutional bilateral agreement and the Erasmus+ KA171 does not provide funding for mobility in non-partner universities.
Concerning the countries which require visa, applicants are advised to check visa requirements and the deadline when the project activities must be completed.
Please be kindly reminded that the partner list and the total budget for maximum weeks are subject to change. The potential budget for maximum weeks may increase depending on the availability through the length of other mobility types & participants/applicants’ withdrawal. Please also be noted that country quotas indicated in the same region can be used for other countries of the region as well. As a result, larger number of participants (larger than the numbers specified in the application call) and/or longer mobility activities might be selected and funded. However, under no circumstances can quotas or grants be transferred between regions.
2. Application Conditions (Minimum Requirements)
2.1. Applicants must be a full-time member of METU and they must be actively working at METU at the time of application,
2.2. Applicants must be within the group employed for teaching and lecturing at METU according to the Higher Education Law No 2547. This incumbent group, based on METU personnel department are Assistant Professors, Associate Professors, Professors and Instructors/Lecturers (except those who are employed with the Law No 7100) who are supposed to teach and lecture. The academic staff who does not fall in the category but teaches in an academic unit either part-time or at their own will (without any legal requirement of their work contract, those who are not incumbent by law such as Research/Teaching Assistants or Instructors/Lecturers-the ones employed with the Law No 7100) are also eligible to apply for this program; however, in such cases, the applicant must be the official course owner of the class (kendi adına ders açılması). Academic staff in this situation are required to upload to the application system either (i) a screenshot showing that the course is directly registered under their name, or (ii) an official confirmation letter obtained from their department.
2.3. Applicants are expected to get in touch with their choice of HEI (from the attached list) and receive an acceptance letter stating that the HEI is/will accepting them prior to the application deadline. Acceptance letter must be received and uploaded to the application system until 30 October, 2026. Late submissions will not be accepted.
A sample acceptance letter draft is provided below. It is not required for the acceptance letters to be signed at the rectorate/dean level in the host institutions; it is sufficient to obtain approval from the unit where the activity will take place. It is also possible for host institutions to use their own invitation letter formats.
Draft Acceptance Letter (with minimum requirements)
Applications of candidates who have not uploaded an acceptance letter to the application system by the application deadline of October 30, 2026 will not be valid.
3. Application Procedure & Application Documents
Step 1: Check the attached Partner list eligible for Erasmus+ funding within this specific call and evaluate which university and country you prefer to visit for the mobility,
Step 2: Obtain an Acceptance Letter.
Step 3: Fill the application form and upload your acceptance document. All applications, selections and placements will be carried out online and through the E-Devlet Career Gate platform initiated by the Turkish National Agency:
https://turnaportal.ua.gov.tr/giris?returnUrl=%2F
Candidates can apply for a maximum of 3 countries from different regions.
An acceptance letter from a university is required for each country applied to; in this case, candidates can rank the relevant acceptance letters in order of preference into a single PDF document and upload them the application system. Candidates who apply to more than one country must rank their preferences according to the country they want most; placement will be made according to the order of preference.
Application documents should not be physically transmitted, but only uploaded to the relevant section of the Application Portal.
The application portal on the E-Devlet Career Gate platform will be available between 15 September-30 October 2026. The application platform will be closed on 30.10.2026 at 17:00 and applicants will not be able to upload any documents or make any changes in your application after this time.
Applications received after the deadline will not be evaluated and documents (including acceptance letters) uploaded after this date/time will not be considered valid.
You can find the details about the application portal in the User Guide.
All applications will be evaluated by METU ICO according to fair and transparent selection criteria (please see Section 4 below) and the results will be announced at E-Devlet Career Gate platform as well as on www.ico.metu.edu.tr.
Important Remarks:
Applications from those candidates who have failed to upload a letter of confirmation/acceptance letter from an eligible partner will not be considered in the selection process.
It is possible to apply for more than one country (3 preferences). But the applicants need to submit an acceptance letter for each of their preferences. If you have more than one acceptance letter, you can merge them as one pdf document and upload it in the order of your preferences.
Since placements in Erasmus+ KA171 activities are made according to regional quotas and candidates' preference rankings, it is possible for a candidate with a lower score to be selected for mobility in the relevant region if he/she prefers a region that other candidates do not prefer. Since the placement and budget process is evaluated according to the regional quota, there is no need to apply for more than one country/institution in the same region.
It is the responsibility of the candidates to upload the application documents completely and accurately, under the correct mobility type. Please DO NOT UPLOAD your Erasmus+ KA131 applications (within Europe) to the Erasmus+ KA171 application system! Applications will be considered invalid if incorrect/incomplete documents are uploaded or applications are made for the wrong mobility type and region.
4. Selection Criteria
To find more information on the selection criteria used in the Erasmus+ Staff Mobility applications, please see the attached document.
Candidates who will be provided with additional points such as candidates with disabilities, relatives of martyrs/veterans and candidates who receive disaster victim aid from AFAD themselves or their first degree relatives, must upload their documents showing their situation to the application system by 17:00 on October 30, 2026. No document submission will be accepted after the official application period ends, if these documents are not uploaded to the application system within the specified periods, it will not be possible to provide additional points to candidates.
Details of activities for the development of AI and/or digital skills are explained in the selection criteria document and candidates who will participate in such an activity must specify the type of activity in question in their acceptance letters. Candidates who do not include details of activities for the development of AI and/or digital skills in their acceptance letters will not be awarded additional points in this category. Candidates selected based on their AI/Digital Skills score are required to continue under this activity type.
5. Duration of the Activities
According to KA171 program rules, duration of teaching mobility ranges from 5 days to 2 months (max.) excluding travel time. In order to learn the maximum duration of the teaching activity that can be funded, please check the attached Partner list for this call.
For those countries in which the budget is available to support more than one week, it may be possible to allocate the whole budget to one teaching staff, if there is only one applicant. In case of having more than one application, the available budget will be shared among applicants according to program rules.
Please be aware that the partner list and the total budget for maximum weeks are subject to change and they might be updated during the application period. While evaluating the application results, total budget for maximum weeks may increase depending on the availability of budget that may become available through the length of other mobility types and applicants/participants’ withdrawals. Also, if a new inter-institutional agreement gets signed, this agreement will be added to the list during the application period.
The teaching activity has to be comprised of a minimum of 8 hours of teaching and 5 consecutive days of activty excluding travel and there must be teaching activity for each day.
For teaching activities that will last more than one-week, minimum teaching hours will be calculated in proportion to the minimum requirement (e.g., 16 hours/2 weeks, 24 hours/3 weeks).
Important Remarks:
If the teaching activity/teaching hours last less than the minimum requirements (min. 5 consecutive days and 8 hours of teaching), the Erasmus+ mobility will be considered as invalid by the funding body. In this case, the grant payment will not be made for the related activity.
The activity must be completed until 31 July 2027. It is not possible for the beneficiaries to conduct their mobility afterwards.
6. Erasmus+ Funding
6.1. Daily Grant Amounts
Daily Grant: 190 € per day for all countries (for mobility periods exceeding 14 days, daily grant is 133 €)
Daily grant is allowed for teaching days and travel days up to 2 days.
Even if the travel days exceed 2 days
In order to provide Erasmus+ funding for the travel days, the travel should take place outside of the teaching days.
6.2. Travel Amount by Distance
In addition to daily grants, participants will receive a travel support as well.
The travel support is a fixed amount and paid once, independent of the price of plane tickets.
http://ec.europa.eu/programmes/erasmus-plus/tools/distance_en.htm
The distance calculator is used to determine the distance between the location where the staff is residing and the place of activity. The kilometers in distance calculated by the distance calculator corresponds to the round-trip and the amount does not get multiplied by two.
*Green Travel
In case the staff member prefers sustainable means of transport in both directions (e.g. using railway, maritime transport, car-pooling with other Erasmus+ programme beneficiaries or using bus), the distance-based travel grant is considered as green travel. The grant amount is calculated according to the relevant part of the table. Whether the staff member can be considered within the scope of green travel is determined by the submission of the relevant travel documents to the International Cooperation Office and the evaluation of the Turkish National Agency.
6.3. A Sample of Grant Calculation
A visit to Albania for 1 week (5 days of teaching & 2 days of travel):
Total grant = 190*5 (mobility days) + 190*2 (travel days) + 309 (travel support) = 1639 €.
Please be informed that participants receive 70% of the total financial support at the beginning of their mobility period and the remaining 30% when the teaching programme is over.
Please also be kindly reminded that participants are responsible for arranging their travel and METU International Cooperations Office is not responsible for travel arrangements and purchasing plane ticket.
Mobility activities that cannot be carried out due to possible problems in travel arrangements will be deemed invalid and the grant payment made to the beneficiary will be expected to be refunded.
7. Additional Grant for Disadvantaged Participants
The Erasmus+ Program encourages the participation of participants with limited means. A person with limited means is a potential participant whose personal physical, mental or health condition does not allow him/her to participate in the project/mobility activity without additional financial support. In order for a beneficiary in need of inclusion support to be given an additional grant, the beneficiary higher education institution must request an additional grant from the Center.
After the inclusion support participant is selected, if the participant requests an additional grant, the approximate additional costs are determined and an additional grant is requested from the Center. The additional grant request can be made by sending the appropriately completed inclusion support form and its attachments to the Center as an official letter before the mobility of the relevant participant begins. An increase in the grant cannot be requested after the participant's activity ends.
8. Erasmus Staff Mobility without Grant (Zero-Grant)
It is possible to participate in Erasmus+ KA171 programme without getting any grant. Those staff members who would like to participate in the programme on a zero-grant basis need to submit an application to ICO under the current call and their applications will be evaluated along with all the others. Those participants with zero grant also have to fulfill the obligations of the program.
9. Contact
