The third mission of universities, their societal engagement, is envisioned to yield significant benefits to Georgian society in the cultural, economic and social domains. The SQUARE project has worked towards the university's third mission as being officially recognized and promoted at the national level through a clear articulation of the integral role of universities and the criteria of assessing its quality. Increased institutional support, resource allocation and strategic planning of the university's third mission are key requirements for increased quality and relevance of the societal engagement activities of Georgian universities.
To effectively address the third mission, and thus benefit the community and enhance the reputation and sustainability of the university itself, universities often need to build strong relationships with external stakeholders, establish dedicated offices or personnel, and secure funding for outreach activities involving the university community - students, faculty, and staff.
With this main objective in mind, as well as to have a common scholarly consensus on effectively addressing the third mission in Georgian universities, the 2nd International Annual Conference, organized this year under the title “SQUARE - Addressing 3rd Mission in Universities: Local and Global” gathers together key stakeholders of university third mission, as well as other representatives from the research community from Georgia and EU to have panel and individual discussions from the local and global perspectives on topics such as 3rd mission policies, challenges and perspectives in universities, SDGs, university-municipality cooperation, government authorities and their role, university-industry cooperation, and engaged universities for a stronger society.
Come and hear fresh new perspectives and join the discussion in Tbilisi on November 14-15, 2024.

The SQUARE project aimed at Strengthening the QUality and RElevance of the 3rd mission in Georgian universities, increasing the impact of 3M and scope and ensuring that 3M is officially recognized and promoted, integral role of Georgian universities they are accountable to. The SQUARE project led to the cultural evolution, benefiting Georgian society at large.
